Since opening its doors in 1977, Professional Printing Center (PPC) has grown from a small, dedicated team in a modest Virginia Beach facility into a leading name in the printing industry. Founded on principles of quality, precision, and exceptional service, PPC has spent nearly five decades building relationships and adapting to the evolving needs of our clients and community.

What began as a local print shop with two duplicators and a vision has transformed into a dynamic company offering everything from traditional offset printing to digital and wide-format solutions. October 31, 1977

PPC Begins as Presto Printing

Norman Ward and Ralph Ness establish PPC in a modest 1,500 sq. ft. facility on Newtown Rd in Virginia Beach, equipped with two duplicators and a desktop folder.

1978

First Year Success

PPC achieves $100,000 in sales, marking a promising start in the printing industry.

1980

Expansion in Capabilities

PPC introduces a 2-color Solna offset press and installs a darkroom for film processing, adapting to the rising quality demands in print.

1983

Rebrand to Professional Printing Center

To differentiate from local quick-copy shops, Presto Printing rebrands as Professional Printing Center.

1984

The Ward Family

The Ward family fully assumes ownership, purchasing shares from Mr. Ness, signifying commitment to PPC’s vision and future.

1986

New Location on Rouse Drive

PPC relocates to a larger, 5,600 sq. ft. facility, underscoring its rapid growth.

1988

Industry-First Upgrades

PPC adds a 4-color Heidelberg press and a modernized darkroom, setting the stage for high-quality, large-format print production.

1989

Expansion into Thermography

Launch of Pro Print Thermography, positioning PPC as a go-to for elevated printing solutions.

1990

Advancing with Technology

PPC introduces computerized estimating and job management, streamlining operations and enhancing service accuracy.

1994

New Horizons on Yupo Court

PPC moves to a 15,000 sq. ft. space in Chesapeake, doubling down on operational capacity and client service.

1998

Expansion for Excellence

A 9,000 sq. ft. addition houses PPC’s first 40” 6-color offset press, a pivotal leap in handling high-volume and high-quality print jobs.

2001

Digital transition

PPC installs Computer-to-Plate (CTP) technology, replacing film processing for a fully digital production process.

2005

Digital Printing Era Begins

With an HP Indigo 5000, PPC embraces digital press technology, setting new standards for flexibility and speed in print solutions.

2007

Expansion into Direct Mail Services

PPC acquires inkjet addressing capabilities, a strategic step into comprehensive printing and mailing services.

2008

Leadership shift:

Brian Ward steps up as President following Norman Ward’s retirement, ensuring continuity and growth.

2011

New Frontiers in Promotional Products

PPC opens a dedicated Promotional Products division, offering clients end-to-end branding solutions.

2018

Innovation in Embellishments

PPC introduces digital embellishment capabilities with TouchFoil 3D™, appealing to clients seeking unique finishes.

2019

Wide Format Division Established

Following a 3,000 sq. ft. expansion, PPC invests in wide-format flatbed and roll printers, enhancing its service range.

2023

Preparing for Growth

PPC purchases 2 acres on Yupo Court for 2 acres of property purchased on Yupo Court for future plant expansion.
